I Don’t Want Papa

Well…it was daddy’s day out again. While mommy went out of town, I was left all by myself … and the two kids (2 & 4 years old). Since the BlogHer balloon fiasco, the kids have grown up and understand when mommy goes away. On the fateful day being left alone, I took extra care of kids (all by myself) and had a great time, however I was dreading for the night since my younger one does not sleep without mama. When I go to pat her, she clearly tells me … I don’t want papa.

She usually goes to bed by 7pm and gives her 1st cry by 10pm when mommy and daddy are busy working. Since mommy is busy churning out posts, I go in and calm the child. And it usually works. However, the howl comes again by 11pm. As much as I try to calm the child, it doesn’t work because she wants mama. Even if I somehow calm her down she would wake up in a few minutes and cry louder. I guess dads are dads … they can’t be moms. What can dads (really) do? On one side is a howling child not wanting the daddy and on the other side is a blogger mommy not wanting the child (crunching blog posts). And in between the two, comes daddy. Trust me, I try hard but it hasn’t worked so far and I guess it never will. My younger one knows crying louder is the only and the only way to get mama. By the way, she loves to play with daddy during the day.

Coming back to my story…after taking extra care of girls (all by myself), I put them to bed. At the first cry, I patted and she went back to sleep – no big deal. I came back to my laptop dreading for the second cry. Certainly I was not looking forward to the second cry as I was totally sure that she would ask for mommy and cry all night long since mommy was not home. She cried the second time, as expected, right at 11pm. I went in her room and gently patted her. Wow! She went back to bed. Thinking that she was asleep as I tried to sneak out, she woke up and said … Papa don’t go, stay with me.
