Why do we go to a conference? To learn, watch demos and see new products, meet people or just hang out because the company has a budget. Not sure if conference is really a place to learn or see demos. I usually go out to network with people. As a first timer to the 140Conf in NYC, I made sure that I connected with people I wanted to connect. Some times it can be challenging if you are new. So, The Papa Post, interviewed Jonathan, Nate and Cecily at the 140Conf in NYC to find out what they have to say about networking at this conference for the first timers.

  1. Blog about the conference before you go and find out who else is going. Comment on their blog and tell them about your post, past experiences (if you have been to the conference before) and that you want to meet them
  2. Take pictures of other people, post it on your blog, tag them on facebook and tweet them
  3. Retweet, ask questions, respond and be yourself
  4. Hang out near the laptop charge station as many people come there to plugin their laptops. This is a perfect place to meet strangers and start conversation.
  5. Engage via direct tweets to specific people (with @ or DM) rather than broadcast messages.

Great post Niri. Love sharing/reading blog conference insights, which is of course why I started Blog Conference Newbie (www.blogconferencenewbie.com). Would love to get to #140 Conference some day. I’ll add it to my LONG list! ;-)

Hope all is well…

Tamara
